Field Law Welcomes Five Partners

Field Law is delighted to announce the addition of five new partners to the firm effective January 1, 2025.

Lee Carter, Carolyn Paterson, Pat Robinson and Matt Vernon, based in Calgary, and Paul Kolida, situated in Edmonton, have been promoted to the position of partners, marking a significant milestone as homegrown talents within the firm.

The integration of these new partners is a testament to Field Law's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, collegiality, and professional excellence. This expansion of our partnership enriches the firm with diverse perspectives and skills, directly benefiting our clients through enhanced legal services and innovative solutions. We are confident that their contributions will significantly bolster our ability to meet and exceed client expectations in an increasingly dynamic and complex legal landscape.

Meet Field Law’s newest partners:

Lee Carter advises clients on a broad range of labour and employment law matters, including wrongful dismissal claims, human rights complaints, occupational health and safety investigations, employment standards legislation, employment contracts and policies, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements.

Paul Kolida provides a variety of services to clients in the insurance and banking sectors as well as general litigation work for businesses of all sizes. He also has experience dealing with product liability issues, ranging from smaller home appliances to complex commercial products.

Carolyn Paterson practices in the areas of insurance, estate litigation and municipal law, championing for her clients through oral and written advocacy. Her insurance defence practice is primarily focused on motor vehicle claims, professional liability, occupiers’ liability, property loss and condominium disputes. In her estate litigation practice Carolyn assists clients navigate wills, power of attorney and capacity disputes. 

Pat Robinson has attended at all levels of Court in Alberta, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Tax Court of Canada. He has acted in complex matters before numerous regulatory bodies, such as the Alberta Securities Commission, IIROC, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, the Law Society of Alberta, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta and the Alberta Teacher’s Association.

Matt Vernon has a commercial civil litigation practice focusing on oil and gas, shareholder disputes, directors and officers’ liability and employment disputes. He has appeared as counsel before all levels of Court in Alberta, as well as at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands. Matt also represents clients in numerous forms of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitral proceedings, judicial dispute resolution and mediation.
