Field Law has an immediate opening for an Accounting Services Clerk (Accounts Payable) to join our Accounting Services Team in Edmonton or Calgary.

The Accounting Services Clerk (AP) is responsible for managing the firm’s expenses and vendor payments, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the accounts payable process. This role is critical to maintaining the financial health and operational efficiency of the firm.

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Invoice processing
  • Receive, review, and verify invoices and cheque requests.
  • Timely data entry into accounting system for vendor payment.
  • Prepare and process payments by cheque, and electronic payments. 
  • Maintain vendor files and ensure all accounts payable records are accurate, reconciled, and complete.
  • Respond to inquiries from vendors and firm members in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Assist with month-end closing activities, including accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and firm policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the accounting team to ensure smooth operation of all finance-related activities.
  • Coordinate with other departments to gather and provide necessary information.
  • Assist with accounts receivables (payments), billing and trust as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications + Skills

  • Completion of high school diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounts payable role, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience and familiarity with online banking.
  • Full cycle accounting experience considered a definite asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and efficiency.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to navigate through the firm’s accounting software.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Working Conditions

  • Normal week-day office hours (35 hours).
  • Hybrid working environment (3 days minimum in the office) after successful probationary period.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Potential for occasional extended hours to meet month-end deadlines.
