12th Annual Field Law Community Fund Program to Provide $80,000 in Funding to Great Local Causes

Local individuals and organizations are encouraged to apply for funding to allow them to continue their great work in the community

Applications are now open for the 2024 Field Law Community Fund Program. Charitable organizations, non-profits and individuals located in Alberta and the Northwest Territories (NWT), including the Calgary area, are eligible and encouraged to apply. Applications close on October 3, 2024.

Applicants meeting the program requirements are eligible to receive up to $30,000 to support their idea and bring it to life. Field Law encourages causes and ideas that support education, healthcare, at-risk youth, homelessness, women’s organizations, diversity, equality, sports, and arts and culture.

Since its inception in 2013, the Community Fund Program has allowed Field Law to act on one of its core values: Giving back to the local communities in which it operates. Over the last eleven years of the program, 144 ideas and causes have been supported to the tune of $835,000.

"The submissions we receive each year reflect the remarkable spirit and creativity of our local communities," says Jeremiah Kowalchuk, Managing Partner at Field Law. "We believe it's essential to engage community members in choosing the causes that matter most to them. The Community Fund Program empowers Albertans and residents of the Northwest Territories to vote for the ideas that inspire them, making a tangible difference in their own communities across the region."

Once applications close on October 3, 2024, anyone living in Alberta or the NWT is invited to vote for their favourite ideas directly through the Field Law website starting on October 10, 2024.

New this year, Field Law is introducing the Next Gen Award. This $5,000 award will support ideas and causes brought forward by post-secondary students in Alberta and the NWT. The Next Gen Award funds will go towards ideas that better campuses or local communities.  Causes could include supporting student services on campus such as food banks, student legal aid or off-campus community services. All details are available on the Community Fund Program website.

“With the introduction of the Next Gen Award, we’re committing to foster the innovative spirit of young people who are passionate about creating positive change," says Kowalchuk. "We understand that students can sometimes feel powerless to improve their communities. This award is our way of encouraging them to turn their ideas into reality, helping to build a better future for their campuses and local communities."

Of the $80,000 available this year, $30,000 will be available in each of northern and southern Alberta, $15,000 is available for the NWT and the Next Gen Award makes up the remaining $5,000.

The final funding recipients will be decided through a combination of public votes and local Judging Panels. For more information on the Field Law Community Fund Program, please visit www.fieldlawcommunityfund.com.
