Brad McFadden is a member of Field Law’s Energy Group, practicing in our Calgary office. Brad practices corporate and commercial law with a focus on the energy and natural resource sectors.

Brad regularly advises clients on wide range of energy related matters, including acquisitions and divestitures of oil and gas assets, joint venture arrangements, midstream facility development, pipeline, storage and transportation arrangements, marketing and oil and gas operational matters. Brad has also assisted clients with respect to First Nations and Métis oil and gas ventures.

Brad’s recent transactions include:

  • Grafton Asset Management in its C$200 million investment in a $244 million Notikewin/Falher and Cardium joint venture.

  • OSUM Oil Sands in its C$325 million acquisition of the Orion Oil Sands Project from Shell Canada.

  • Surge Energy Inc. in its C$430 million sale of assets in SE Saskatchewan and Manitoba to an unnamed buyer.

  • A private energy company’s C$59 million acquisition of petroleum and natural gas assets in the Progress Doe Creek area of Alberta from Birchcliff Energy Ltd.

  • Black Shire in its C$358 million acquisition by Twin Butte Energy Ltd. pursuant to a plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (Alberta).

  • Sunshine Oilsands Ltd. in the sale of certain non-core oil sands assets to a third party industry partner for a total consideration of C$20 million.

  • TransCanada Corporation in its C$210 million acquisition of BP’s 40% interest in the assets of the Crossfield Gas Storage facility, as well as BP’s interest in CrossAlta Gas Storage & Services Ltd.

  • APL Oil & Gas (1998) Ltd. in its C$84.1 million disposition of petroleum and natural gas assets in the Wild River area of the Alberta Deep Basin to Tourmaline Oil Corp.

  • Gift Energy Ltd., a company established by the Gift Lake Métis Settlement, in respect of its joint venture arrangement with One Earth Oil & Gas Inc. for the exploration and development of heavy oil prospects on Gift Lake Métis Settlement Lands.
