Kathleen Shannon is an energy regulatory lawyer with a focus on environmental and Indigenous law. She has broad range of experience in regulatory law, including facilities applications, tolls and tariffs proceedings and surface rights matters.

Kathleen provides counsel regarding approvals for power plants, including wind farms and cogeneration plants, pipelines, oil sands projects, LNG facilities, wells, and telecommunications towers. She has appeared before the National Energy Board, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Alberta Surface Rights Board, Joint Review Panels and a Pipeline Arbitration Committee. Kathleen also represents clients in industry disputes and in negotiations, arbitrations and engagement with landowners and Indigenous groups. She provides advice on a range of environmental issues including permitting and approvals, environmental assessment, incident investigation and management and regulatory compliance.

Kathleen is registered as a Professional Engineer in Alberta. Prior to entering the legal profession, she worked as an engineer for a major oil and gas company gaining operations and project management experience giving her insight into her clients’ needs. Kathleen also worked in environmental consulting, municipal waste management, automobile manufacturing and chemical manufacturing during work terms while earning her Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
