Alain Chiasson is a member of Field Law’s Business Group, practicing in the firm’s Yellowknife office.

Alain has a vast legal background in corporate law, business law and securities law. He also focuses on taxation and estate planning including, estate freezes, corporate reorganizations, tax litigation and the purchase or selling of shares and assets. His practice also includes the areas of mining and natural resources.

A large part of Alain’s practice includes advising mining corporations seeking investment opportunities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. He also provides strategic guidance to Inuit companies in arranging tailored corporate structures in the negotiation and implementation of intricate agreements, thus allowing for the greatest organizational potential of firm natural resources.

Within these territories, Alain has also guided clients on the various complex administrative aspects of the regulatory bodies in the mining industry. To enhance his knowledge and practice, Alain recently also completed The Osgoode Certificate in Mining Law, thus giving him the background to provide strategic advice to better equip clients on crucial business and legal matters in the mining industry today.

Previously, Alain has also appeared before the Court of Queen’s Bench, Court of Appeal, as well as the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board and various administrative tribunals.

Commercial Securities Experience
  • Acted as a counsel representative for multinational corporations in Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Advised in the acquisition planning of mining properties in these areas.
  • Provided legal guidance in Nunavut to a multinational firm on regulatory processes in mining for acquiring and registering mineral claims, leases, and various licenses in the acquisition of another organization.
  • Provided assistance to mining firms with security and title options on properties in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut during the large financing and acquisition prospects of other mining properties.
  • Acted as counsel for a multinational mining organization in the Northwest Territories throughout a takeover bid for a publicly incorporated firm.
  • Represented as counsel in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut for a Canadian mining organization throughout acquiring mineral assets further located in Nunavut.
  • Advised an Aboriginal firm in strategy for the drafting, negotiation, and implementation of mining agreements for various leases and production agreements.
  • Provides representation to Inuit firms and mining organizations throughout the negotiation, drafting and implementation of partnerships, joint ventures, and other organizational combinations in the sectors of mining and natural resources.
  • Gives guidance to small, medium and large organizations for financing, purchasing and selling of businesses, incorporations and any tax issues in business transactions.
