Charlene Lipchen has a diverse intellectual property practice, with a focus on drafting and prosecuting patent and trade-mark applications in Canada, the United States and around the world. Charlene has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for clients in a broad number of industries, including forestry, agriculture, power line services, outdoor recreation, medical devices, oil and gas exploration tools, automobile control systems, manufacturing control systems and safety devices.

Charlene also advises product manufacturers, importers and retailers on product regulatory compliance matters and consumer product safety issues, including the reporting obligations under the Canada Consumer Product and Safety Act (CCPSA) and various labelling and packaging requirements for products sold in Canada, and facilitates cross-border consumer product regulatory investigations and product recalls. Charlene assists clients in combating counterfeit products, using various strategies that may include civil litigation and enlisting the assistance of governmental authorities. Charlene also advises clients on a wide variety of commercial agreements, including licenses, supply agreements and releases and warranties.

Charlene studied Chemistry and English Literature at the University of Calgary before earning her Juris Doctorate at the University of Toronto in 2009. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 2014 and the Ontario Bar in 2010. Charlene joined the firm’s Calgary office in November 2013, after practicing at a national firm in Toronto.
