Value to Clients

"While the issues I work on for clients don’t always go to trial, I still need to clearly and realistically explain what the process is and the related risks. It’s my job to ensure they go in with their eyes wide open and that there are no surprises.”

Outside the Office

When Jessica is not at work, you’re likely to find her at the movie theatre. An admitted horror-movie buff, Jessica confesses the lure to this genre is the unrealism that surrounds it. When she's not scaring herself, she loves being outside and reading historical fiction.

Elan Construction Limited v. South Fish Creek Recreational Association, 2016 ABCA 220, Alberta Court of Appeal

One client – a housing corporation – had a tenant who filed a claim against them. The housing corporation wanted to ensure they were fair and reasonable with the tenant but didn’t want to set a precedent for future claims of a similar nature. Despite a great deal of effort, the matter went to trial in Provincial Court and one of the challenges included ensuring that all evidence was properly brought before the Court. While preparing all five defence witnesses for trial was stressful, through meticulous preparation, attention to detail and thorough legal research, we ensured they were in the best possible position going into the trial. Ultimately we were successful in our defense of the claim, both preserving the reputation of the corporation and discouraging future claims of a similar nature.
