Scott Matheson is a business-minded lawyer with a general litigation practice, representing individuals, businesses, governments, and post-secondary institutions in disputes in Alberta and Western Canada.

Scott's experience helping clients includes acting as business and litigation counsel for a broad range of issues, including:

  • Commercial, shareholder, and collection disputes
  • Construction litigation
  • Commercial tenancy and condominium matters
  • Professional liability matters
  • Fatality inquiries
  • Constitutional litigation
  • Defamation claims
  • Domestic and international arbitrations
  • Acting as Independent Supervising Solicitor (ISS) in carrying out Anton Piller orders

He handles matters from inception to trial at various administrative tribunals, the Alberta Court of Justice both Civil and Criminal, the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Outside the Office

Scott is a seasoned world traveler with a weakness for New York City. He also makes it a point to drop in on court proceedings whenever he travels throughout Canada or abroad. "It’s cheaper than the movies. But popcorn is generally discouraged."

Scott has handled several commercial contract disagreements involving abandoned goods after an eviction or post-lease. "This is a common problem for landlords, banks and other, related parties to an agreement. So, we've created a template that offers a set of practical options that often avoid the need for legal action altogether."
